  * guessing that a workaround for ''No space left on device'' — if the
 affected device is the disk image target of `mdmg` — could be to

  a. first prepare an image with sufficient capacity
   *

 hdiutil -- manipulate disk images (attach, verify, burn, etc)]
   * or use Disk Utility
  b. then run the string of commands.
