Comment:

 As this is not a symlink, it is directly compiled into the Vim.app binary.
 It is told to use that path as a configure flag.

 Vim.app is not self contained, nor is any other .app in
 /Applications/MacPorts. That's the main reason why they are in a
 subfolder.
