Comment:

 Could you please retry with 4.2.2?
 I had no problem with texlive. (I compiled 4.2.0 with tetex and 4.2.2 with
 texlive).

 $ sudo port provides /opt/local/bin/tex
 /opt/local/bin/tex is provided by: texlive_base

 I am also running 10.4.11 (but on PowerPC).
