 Looks like the post-activate phase of texlive_base failed. You can try
 doing manually
 {{{
 sudo mktexlsr
 sudo fmtutil-sys --all
 sudo updmap-sys --syncwithtrees
 }}}
 And see if it repairs things. If not, you will probably have to clean and
 reinstall texlive_base.

 By the way, there is a minimal variant for texlive (but it is still a big
 install).
