Comment (by mlund at mac.com):

 On powerpc, macports gcc 4.2 is now used to compile as this is the only
 way I was able to compile gromacs under ppc. For the time being the mpi
 variant is disabled due to incompatible combinations of lammpi, openmpi,
 ppc and intel.
