 I am using MacPorts from trunk which includes the env variable fixes you
 committed but I am still experiencing the issue with this port. I think
 your fixes don't entirely fix the issue, but my previous reproduction
 recipe required installing a dozen ports in order to experience the issue.
 But here we have an issue while installing just a single port which is
 much easier to try to fix (if indeed it's the same problem).
