 I've learned from the mailing list that petitpoucet 0.1.4 now includes the
 patched source of gpsbabel. So maybe we can use that instead of having to
 patch the gpsbabel port.

 I've also received a guide on compiling petitpoucet and its dependencies
 on the Mac. It helped me write a port for VirtualPlanetBuilder, another
 dependency. That is committed in r38705.
