 On a 64-bit PPC machine running the latest Leopard, I get as follows.
 (It's an issue because it also prevents autoconf from building, etc.)  I
 couldn't find this bug reported here, so I hope it's OK to list it, even
 though I am by no means an expert in building with macports.

 $ sudo port clean perl5.8 && sudo port upgrade perl5.8
