Comment(by markd at macports.org):

 Installing private headers breaks some things.  Don't remember what, but
 if I had time to dredge up an old ticket from 3-4 years ago it would give
 details because at one time the private headers were installed by default
 briefly until the problems were noticed.  I suppose if the variant were
 commented well it might be ok.
