 It could have failed for several reasons; do you know if you are able to
 use rsync from your network location (if not, this could have caused the
 selfupdate to fail).

 If you try to run 'port version' in Terminal and see 'command not found',
 it could have failed to update your .profile; see
 [http://trac.macports.org/wiki/ProblemHotlist#a.profilenotsetup .profile
 not setup] to deal with that.
