 I had the exact same problem on my fresh 10.5.4 installation upgraded to
 10.5.5 , installed xquartz-2.3.1 , installed Xcode3 (latest version) , and
 macports-1.6.0.

 The diff change in Portfile did work.

 Would be nice to see it fixed tho.
