 I just grabbed it from the same site as you (http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/gperf)
 and the file matches the checksum just fine.  Seems like it could be the
 first point of the
 [wiki:FAQ#IgetError:checksummd5sha1rmd160mismatchforport.WhatcanIdoaboutit
 FAQ entry] jmr mentioned.

 If a 'clean all' and refetch still fails to match the checksum what does
 {{{ls -l /opt/local/var/macports/distfiles/gperf/}}} show?
