 That's odd, if I run 'port info octave' it shows
 {{{
 Library Dependencies: readline, curl, hdf5, fftw-3, metis, SuiteSparse,
 pcre, glpk, gnuplot, ncurses, qhull, g95
 }}}
 but with 'port info octave +gcc43' it shows
 {{{
 Library Dependencies: readline, curl, hdf5, fftw-3, metis, SuiteSparse,
 pcre, glpk, gnuplot, ncurses, qhull, gcc43
 }}}

 Are you using 'port install' or 'port upgrade' on octave?  Perhaps there's
 a bug with upgrade that is keeping the old dependencies around?
