 I use Terminal as well (instead of xterm), but DISPLAY is using the
 launchd-style setting instead of just :0.0.  :0.0 will work, but you have
 to have X11.app running prior, as you found out.  The launchd version has
 the convenience of automatically launching X11.app when needed.
