Comment(by markd at macports.org):

 The data corruption bug is fixed, and it builds fine on 10.5, so I'd
 rather contact the developer first since he usually fixes things fast.  I
 didn't know it was broken on 10.4 but I duplicated the problem to send it
 to the list.
