 What OS are you on?  It works fine here for me on 10.5/ppc and
 10.5/x86+universal ... I'll test 10.4/ppc when I get home, but I don't see
 why that would not work either.  Do a 'sudo port -v selfupdate ; sudo port
 -v upgrade outdated' first, then try doing your 'sudo port -v install
 xorg'
