 Setting to low priority since 10.6 is not out yet.

 Have you tried doing this (you need autoconf/automake ports installed):
 {{{
 sudo port clean lftp
 sudo port patch lftp
 cd `port work lftp`/lftp-3.7.6
 autoreconf -v
 cd
 sudo port configure lftp
 }}}

 Please attach the output from `autoreconf -v` forward.
