 Sounds to me like the biggest problem to solve here is to make Ports
 correctly realize there is another version already installed. The worst
 part is that there is a version of 2.6 pre-installed and Port is too
 stupid to notice.

 This affects many things. Same thing could be said for apache2, not just
 python. We need ports to not just build for the sake of building.
