 Using arno+macports solution I was able to install py26-numpy using the
 no_gcc43 variant.

 For anyone that stumbles onto this ticket, just run:
 {{{
 sudo port clean py26-numpy
 sudo port install py26-numpy +no_gcc43
 }}}

 You should be able to continue installing your original port after that. I
 was able to install py26-gtk after getting py26-numpy working on the
 no_gcc43 variant.
