 I don't have the computer with me so I can't give you better details, but
 I ended up hacking this to get it working, and just thought I'd share what
 it was that I did. It turns out that the Makefile under
 {{{work/texlive_base-2007/libs/freetype}}} wasn't searching in
 {{{/opt/local/lib}}} so I hacked that Makefile to do
 {{{-L/opt/local/lib}}}, and from there I was able to build and install
 this port. I guess whoever fixes this probably needs to patch the code to
 have {{{libs/freetype}}} respect the library settings set further up in
 the texlive source code, but I'm not really familiar with how all that
 works.
