 I assume that this port development is a sort of introductory course on
 MacPort, so, please excuse me.

 CVS is integrated in OS X: type in a TERMINAL windows this code

 and you will get the project folder downloaded in your Home folder on Mac,
 honestly I don't yet know how to upgrade it.
 I don't know if tool that support subversion also support CVS natively.
