 See #18633 for the analogous ticket on couchdb-devel.

 The problem has been confirmed by other users as well. Sometimes it does
 work, apparently, but going through generated startup item, daemondo and
 then the server seems it but too indirect. And the project ships a Mac OS
 launchd plist.

 I mailed the maintainer on his mp address yesterday and ask for his
 opinion and offered co-maintainership. Since the issue has been open and
 unacknowledged since 4 months we should probably do something. CouchDB is
 quite a popular piece of software, and we should get it in shape soon.
