On my 10.5.6 host with MacPorts-1.7, I came across the following error
(and fix) today...
Biko-2:~ sck$ sudo port selfupdate
MacPorts base version 1.700 installed
Downloaded MacPorts base version 1.700
The MacPorts installation is not outdated so it was not updated
Biko-2:~ sck$ sudo port install ssldump
---> Fetching ssldump

---> Extracting ssldump
---> Applying patches to ssldump
---> Configuring ssldump
