Comment:

 The error code 12 seems to indicate a lack of memory. See for example the
 thread of http://lists.macosforge.org/pipermail/macports-
 users/2008-May/010440.html
 I have succesfully installed texlive on a machine with 256MB RAM in the
 past, so I guess something else is eating your memory. You could retry
 while using 'top -o rprvt' to monitor your memory.
