 I went to that link, and instead downloaded the current version which is
 1.64.3 (and not a beta).

 I decided to try it with the same flags that are in the current port so I
 did:

 {{{
  ./configure --with-ogg=/opt/local --with-vorbis=/opt/local --with-
 libiconv-prefix=/opt/local --with-included-argv --with-included-libmad
 --with-included-tre
 make
 }}}
 and the new version builds and seems to work just fine.

 The odd thing is that I still get:
 bitrate: -1
 meta interval: 16384
 but then it seems to work just fine.  So I guess these didn't relate to
 the actual bus error.

 So, I think all it would take to get it to upgrade to a newer, and working
 version, is changing the port to 1.64.3 and getting in the correct
 checksums.
