 Sorry, it turns out that the hang is due to outdated proxy settings for
 .curlrc. Gnucash didn't use curl for the Financial Quotes module before
 2.2.8??? I only found this out after installing Gnucash 2.2.8 on another
 Mac which runs without problems.
