 Yes, I've got the latest version of python25 installed, and yes I'm using
 python_select.

 But I do think that this is a specific problem with the variants
 combination of +openmpi +python25. Due to that the activation fails when
 trying to install the boost.mpi python module, which should only be built
 with this variant combination.
