 Seeing almost the same behavior on OS X 10.5.7, MacPorts 1.710, SoX
 14.2.0.  No speaker pop here, but the rest is right, including the
 segfault.  Ditto for recording.

 Unfortunately also happens with SoX 14.3.0 binary from upstream.
