Comment:

 It just takes a long time in 1.7.1 to resolve all the dependencies.  This
 will be improved in 1.8.0 (or using
 svn trunk now) but it may be quicker to do the install in stages like
 this:
 {{{
 sudo port install gtk2
 sudo port install gimp2
 sudo port install gimp
 }}}
