Comment:

 There currently is no maintainer for this port so the best approach would
 be for someone who is
 interested in the port to update the Portfile as necessary and attach a
 diff (patch) against the current port
 for consideration by a committer.  Since (from your comments) that the
 code seems to be unstable still
 perhaps a new abiword-devel port would be appropriate.
