Comment:

 vtk-devel was developed and tested only for cocoa.  The error indicated
 appears to be a problem with the wrapping.  You might try:

 {{{
 port install vtk-devel -wrap +x11
 }}}

 If you do want python wrapping, perhaps you assume it will only work if
 you use the x11 variant.  I believe that was true of earlier ports.  In
 the Portfile development process, the python wrapping builds and imports
 OK for the cocoa build in vtk-devel.  I've not done extensive testing of
 the functionality under python for the cocoa build.

 Please consider vtk-devel a work in progress.  If you need something that
 just works, you might be better to focus on the vtk5 port.
