 Update:

 After a bit of greping of the Portfiles, it appears that there are only
 two dependents of libgda3 to
 consider
 {{{
 gnome-python-extras
 midgard2-core
 }}}

 and both are advertized to build with libgda4 in their latest version, so
 I don't think its worth the effort to make a "transitional" version of
 libgda3. Makes things simpler.

 If there is no protest will commit libgda4 in the morning along with an
 updated version of gnome-python-extras based on libgda4 and anjuta both of
 which I am testing now.  Will leave midgard2-core and final fate of
 libgda3 to jwa who maintains both.

 Please let know if anyone disagrees.
