 And what is in your /usr/local? So far, all I know about this issue is
 that I believe something in /usr/local interferes with FreeType. The
 solution is to rename or delete /usr/local. It is not supported to have
 things in /usr/local while using MacPorts. The best I can do for the
 freetype port is to add a warning if the specific interfering file is
 detected. But I can't add that until I know what the interfering file is.
