Comment:

 Merged to 1.7 branch in r48236.  Guide updated with use_7z in r48254.  Man
 page for trunk updated in r48255 and on 1.7 branch in r48256.

 As far as naming, if the format is called 7z instead of 7zip, then the
 current name makes sense to me...
