 The reason was was to avoid conflict with py-cairo, py26-cairo, and
 (probably eventually) py30-cairo.[[BR]]
 For Portfiles, the idea was to set configure.pkg_config_path to
 ${frameworks_dir}/Python.framework/Versions/${py_version}/lib/pkgconfig[[BR]]
 for whichever py_version you wanted.

 It is not ideal, but is was the best I could come up with at the time.
