 FWIW... Adding `-flat_namespace` to `LDFLAGS` doesn't appear to have any
 effect.

 Oh, and pkg-config fans will probably find
 [http://err.no/personal/blog/2008/Mar/25 this peripherally related blog
 posting] interesting. I'm not entirely sure what it means for the sort of
 scenario articulated in this ticket. But I've asked.
