 The problem hotlist here:

 explains where to download a port when fetch has failed but then doesn't
 say what to do with it.

 For me, the fetch that is failing is:

  sudo port install rb-rake
 --->  Fetching rb-rake
 --->  Attempting to fetch rake-0.8.3.gem from
 http://rubyforge.rubyuser.de/gems/
 --->  Attempting to fetch rake-0.8.3.gem from
 http://svn.macports.org/repository/macports/distfiles/rb-rake
