 The problem persisted even after restart.  It would crash for me when I
 ran gnucash.  Gnucash would start, and complain about not being able to
 read or save preferences.  Opening the console showed the crash, witht he
 crash log being written too.  I updated my MacPorts install, which updated
 gnucash, and that had no effect.

 There were no dbus process running.  Executing dbus from the command line
 would crash as well.  Once I de-activated the new on, and re-activated the
 old one, I could run it manually, and gnucash once again started it
 automatically.
