Comment:

 I don't want to apply that particular diff because I do not want to
 disable the installation of documentation by default and move it to a
 variant. I want to eliminate variants, not create new ones.

 This problem will fix itself once gtk-doc 1.12 is released and a new
 version of pango is released that was packaged using gtk-doc 1.12. Until
 then, we can apply a local patch to fix the usage of the "which" command
 to be compatible with Mac OS X 10.4.x and earlier, as has already been
 done in other ports.
