 The offending code was disabled by default in r43011 as shown above but
 was re-enabled later because it really couldn't do anything without it.

 The best alternative is to install gimp-gap-devel which incorporates a
 much newer version of ffmpeg
 and has more functionality and better integration with the gimp 2.6
 branch.  This version is a pre-2.6
 release version which will
 replace the existing gimp-gap version shortly. Just deactivate
 gimp-gap first and install gimp-gap-devel
