New description:

 mpich version 1.2.7

 When I try to run mpirun I get the following error.

 ./mpirun: line 75:
 /opt/local/var/db/dports/build/_opt_local_var_db_dports_sources_rsync.rsync.darwinports.org_dpupdate_dports_science_mpich/work/destroot//opt/local/bin/mpirun.args:
 No such file or directory

 From this, it looks like a build problem in that mpirun is looking for
 things in a very odd place.

 I tried adding -prefix=/opt/local to the configure arguments, but that did
 not help.

 This is on an intel with uname -a:
