 i had the diff file in /opt/local/var/macports/distfiles/xercesc/. moving
 it to your suggested location solved the issue. thanks for the quick
 feedback.

 any idea when this fix becomes a default? (i used to think patches are
 automatically integrated, here i had to patch manually)

 is still intact?
