 I installed lua +universal (x86_64/i386) on Snow Leopard, but:

 $ lipo -info /opt/local/lib/liblua.a
 input file /opt/local/lib/liblua.a is not a fat file
 Non-fat file: /opt/local/lib/liblua.a is architecture: x86_64
 $ port provides /opt/local/lib/liblua.a
 /opt/local/lib/liblua.a is provided by: lua
 $ port installed lua
 The following ports are currently installed:
   lua @5.1.4_0+universal (active)
 $
