 After manually installing openssl

 sudo port install openssl
 }}}

 then following up with third try at

 {{{
 sudo port install xorg-server
 }}}

 I now have a visible icon and application in /Application/MacPorts/X11

 Next step is quartz-wm.  al
 I am not sure what and why this thread became successful, but if you have
 an inkling, great!
