 You build universally by using the +universal variant, which is not
 default. But I think that universal will fail because atlas, a numpy
 dependency, does not build universally at the moment. Looks like you're on
 Snow Leopard is this true? Is your Mac 64bit capable?

 What's the output of

 /opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6
 /site-packages/numpy/linalg/lapack_lite.so
 }}}

 on my 64bit SL system it says that the above file is x86_64
