 How did you get it to work? It's still failing for me with the same error:

 bash-3.2# port clean denyhosts
 --->  Cleaning denyhosts
 bash-3.2# port install denyhosts +python26
 --->  Computing dependencies for denyhosts
 --->  Building denyhosts
 Error: Target org.macports.build returned: can't read "python.bin": no
 such variable
 Error: Status 1 encountered during processing.
