 There's an easy workaround:

 sudo port extract mesa
 pushd `port work mesa`/src/glu
 sudo sed -i -e 's/¥*//' glu.exports.darwin
 popd
 sudo port upgrade mesa
 }}}

 Notes: Sorry about the YEN SIGN (if that's what you see), it should be
 REVERSE SOLIDUS (backslash).  If you don't have mesa installed yet, use
 'install' instead of 'upgrade' in the port command.
