 Thank you for your reply but I am neither able to activate cairo nor to
 reinstall it because of its dependency on xorg-libX11. Its like a dead
 lock.

 $ sudo port activate cairo
 --->  Activating cairo
 Error: port activate failed: Image error: Source file
 /opt/local/var/macports/software/cairo/1.8.4_1+macosx/opt/local/lib/libcairo.2.dylib
 does not appear to exist (cannot lstat it).  Unable to activate port
 cairo.
