VirtualEnv's don't solve anything really. This in itself needs fixing.

they are forced to. Art least fink gives the option to use the system
installed one or the fink one. MacPorts should learn a thing or two. And
that excuse about broken versions Apple ships is just not accurate, or
relevant.
