 Virtualenv 1.3.3 is broken indeed on SL, you need to run -dev (1.3.4b).

 Go to http://bitbucket.org/ianb/virtualenv/, in the top right corner hover
 over "get source", download an archive, unpack, {{{setup.py install}}} and
 venv will be back.
